New London four-piece Little Cub are Alexander Gore, Duncan Tootill, Adrian Acolatse and Nathaniel Butler. Now, a quick glance at their press shot screams one thing to us, 'proper band', and not 'proper' in the traditional sense of, feather-cuts, leather jackets, Fred Perry and lager-swilling - no, Little Cub just seem to fit together perfectly, a well-oiled unit. And on debut track 'Breathing Space', they sound like one, too. There's no grand plans to reinvent the wheel with 'Breathing Space', but what you do get is a rock-solid slice of punchy contemporary indie, underpinned by some delightfully plinky synth hooks, slick guitars and vibrating rhythms, courtesy of The Bohicas' bassist Adrian. Whether Little Cub are just a great side project of his, or a fresh start, it remains to be seen. We're secretly hoping it's the latter, because 'Breathing Space' is an understated banger. - DC
